Artist Statement – Christopher Micaud
I learned the art of observation the interplay of light from my grandfather, an avid photographer whose passion deeply influenced my creative vision. Growing up, my parents – both educators in art and political science exposed me to diverse experiences and societies, shaping my perspective from an early age.
My artistic journey was further cultivated at The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where I built a strong foundation that continues to inform my editorial work. Over the years, I have had the privilege of contributing to many prestigious publications such as Bazaar, The New York Times, Vogue, Marie Claire, and Vanity Fair. I have also collaborated with renowned actors including Penélope Cruz, Monica Bellucci, Charlize Theron, Elizabeth Hurley & Mila Jovoich to name a few.
These photographs many taken in the late 80’s and 90’s represent a time in New York and other large cities that were a very exciting time in the world of Art, Fashion & Photography.
In my photography, I constantly experiment with techniques and elements that transcend reality. The interplay of light and shadow, along with the strategic use of negative space, forms the foundation of my images. Through this approach, I invite viewers to engage with the work on a personal level, encouraging interpretations that evoke an emotional connection and lasting memories.
